CASA Dodge Ball Tournament 2008

Dodge Ball fever has officially spread over Henderson County once again.  Our first annual ESPN 96.5 Dodgeball Tournament to benefit Henderson County CASA(Court Appointed Special Advocates) was held Saturday, September 27th  at Caywood Elementary School gym. It was a huge success.

We held our second annual ESPN 96.5 Dodgeball Tournament to benefit Henderson County CASA on Saturday February 28, 2009. It was also a huge success. We had a total of 11 teams to participate.

Lexington Middle School, sponsored by the Lexington Progress, was the new winners of the “CASA Cup” and a pizza party donated by Sparky’s Pizzeria and Grill.  Other participating teams included: Riverside High School sponsored by Community South Bank; Lexington High School Football Team sponsored by Attorneys Martin & Martin; Montgomery Ballers sponsored by Save-a-Lot; Lexington Middle School Faculty sponsored by the Lexington City Schools;  Harris Farms sponsored by Larry Paul and Judy Harris; Westover School sponsored by Remax Unlimited; Scotts Hill High School sponsored by First Bank;Scotts Hill Lions sponsored by Community Bank; P Hill Ballers sponsored by Steve Beal; Broad Street sponsored by Jones Pharmacy; and Jackson State Community College sponsored by WZLT.

Other sponsors included: Corporate Images, Peoples Bank, Clayton Bank and Trust, Coca-Cola Bottling Works,Throne Law Office, and Carnal Roberts Insurance agency.

Dodge Ball, the game most of us remember playing in elementary school, has become a competitive option for the young and young-at-heart.  It was surprising to most everyone attending the tournament, the high level of competition that was displayed.  The enthusiasm for the tournament was so great that many individuals look forward to the next one.

Henderson County CASA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to train community volunteers to be advocates for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system.  These volunteers are trained to represent the best interests of children to whom they are appointed by Judge Steve Beal.  The next training class for volunteers will be held in the Spring of 2009..
